CanAm Bullion is a precious metals dealer based in Windsor, Ontario, right across the river from Detroit. It sells gold, silver, and platinum online to buyers in Canada and the United States, with USD pricing on its .com site and CAD pricing on its .ca site.

We priced its products against the spot market, read its payment and shipping terms line by line, and checked what outside sources say about it. Here's what we found, including the parts the homepage doesn't spell out.

Key Points

  • CanAm's 1 oz gold premiums ran about 3% to 4% over spot when we checked, but only if you pay by wire, cheque, or e-Transfer.
  • Card and PayPal buyers lose a 4% cash discount, and small items like 1 gram bars and Goldbacks carry far steeper markups.

Who Is Behind CanAm Bullion?

Michael Piccioni founded the business and has run it since 2017, according to the company's About page. He also runs CanAm Currency Exchange in the same city and hosts

The Gold Awakening Podcast. CanAm says he holds an MBA and spent more than 20 years as an economist at a Fortune 500 company, and the podcast's website names that employer as UnitedHealth Group.

The company lists itself as a registered Royal Canadian Mint dealer. The Better Business Bureau shows CanAm Bullion as an accredited business with an A+ rating. CanAm also claims 20,000+ customers and over $1 billion in transactions.

We couldn't verify either figure, and the transaction number likely includes the currency exchange side.

In September 2026 the company opened a new storefront at 3854 Dougall Ave in Windsor. That counter is a real part of the pitch.

Piccioni told The Drive Magazine in March 2025 that with other dealers, "customers can wait between two to four months to have their silver delivered." Treat that as his view of competitors, not a measured statistic.

What Their Gold Actually Costs

We pulled CanAm's listed USD prices on September 18, 2026, and compared them against the $4,383.45 per ounce closing spot price that Trading Economics reported for that day.

Spot moves all day, so read these premiums as close estimates rather than exact figures.

ProductCanAm Price (USD)Approx. Premium Over Gold Value
1 oz Gold Bar, Royal Canadian Mint$4,511.742.9%
1 oz Gold Bar, Valcambi$4,550.693.8%
1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin$4,552.153.8%
1 gram Gold Bar, Valcambi (sale price)$165.99about 18%
One Goldback (Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, etc.)$10.73about 145%

For 1 oz products, those numbers look fair for retail bullion in 2026.

The small items tell a different story. A 1 gram bar holds roughly $141 of gold at that spot price, so you hand over about $25 extra for the minting, packaging, and assay card.

Each Goldback contains 1/1000 of a troy ounce of gold, worth about $4.38 at spot. At $10.73, you're mostly paying for the note itself.

One Google reviewer on CanAm's homepage called it the only source for Goldbacks he could find, and that's a fine reason to buy them as collectibles or for barter. Just don't treat them as a cheap way to stack gold.

How You Pay Changes What You Pay

This is the detail most shoppers miss. CanAm's payment page states that the prices on the site already include the cash discount. So the number you see assumes a bank wire, Interac e-Transfer, or cheque.

Payment MethodLimitClearing TimeDiscount
Credit cardUp to $20,0001 business dayNone
PayPalUp to $10,0002+ business daysNone
Interac e-Transfer (CAD only)Up to $20,0002+ business days4%
Wire transfer$1,000 and up1 business day4%
Cheque, draft, money orderUp to $25,0004-6 business days4%

Run the math on the Maple Leaf. Pay by card, and that 4% gap pushes your cost to roughly 8% over spot. On a single ounce, you give up about $180. Americans can't use e-Transfer, so a wire is the practical route to the listed price.

CanAm doesn't accept American Express, prepaid cards, or gift cards, and it cancels any e-Transfer order that the buyer doesn't pay within 24 hours.

Shipping and Delivery

  • Orders under $499 USD pay a flat $29.95 for shipping; larger orders ship free.
  • CanAm ships within 3-5 business days after your payment clears, and the courier usually delivers within 1-3 business days after that.
  • Every package needs your signature. Miss the courier and you'll pick it up at a local depot or post office.
  • CanAm says it tracks and insures every order.

Add it up and a wire order realistically takes one to two weeks from payment to doorstep. That's normal for the industry.

One gap for American readers: we found no clear statement on the site about customs brokerage or who handles paperwork on shipments crossing into the US. Call and ask before a large order.

Reading the Reviews

CanAm's homepage says it has more than 1,000 Google reviews, and the ones it displays are glowing. Look closer and you'll notice a pattern.

Most run one or two sentences, praise a staff member by first name, and cluster in June and July of 2024. A few talk about exchanging currency rather than buying metal.

None of that makes them fake. It does mean they describe the Windsor storefront experience more than online order fulfillment.

Outside commentary is thinner. A reviewer on Bullion.Directory called CanAm friendly and easy to deal with but pricier than SilverGoldBull.

That matches our read: fair pricing, not always the lowest. CanAm advertises a price match against Canadian competitors, so ask for it.

Where the Gold Market Sits Right Now

Gold traded at $4,309.08 per ounce on the morning of September 21, 2026, according to CNBC. Trading Economics puts gold about 19% higher than a year ago but roughly 3% lower over the past month. The Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points last week and signaled more hikes could follow.

Physical demand has cooled without collapsing. The World Gold Council's Q2 2026 Gold Demand Trends report shows:

  • Global bar and coin investment of 307 tonnes in Q2, roughly flat with a year earlier
  • First half bar and coin demand of 784 tonnes, one of the strongest first halves on record
  • Central bank purchases of 289 tonnes in Q2
  • North American gold ETF outflows of 61 tonnes in the first half, the only region with net selling

The WGC's US report added that retail buyers favored investment bars to get the most metal per dollar. CanAm's own price list rewards that habit. The RCM 1 oz bar was the cheapest ounce we priced.

Our Take: Who CanAm Fits

CanAm makes sense for some buyers and not others.

A good fit if you:

  • Live near Windsor or Detroit and want to buy in person.
  • Plan to pay by wire and stick to 1 oz coins or bars.
  • Want Royal Canadian Mint products from a registered dealer.

Look elsewhere if you:

  • Want to pay by card and still get the best price.
  • Mostly buy fractional gold, where markups climb fast.
  • Need written answers on US import handling before ordering.

Conclusion

CanAm Bullion is a legitimate, RCM registered dealer with competitive 1 oz gold pricing, as long as you pay by wire or cheque and skip the novelty items.

Call first, ask about the price match, and get your total in writing before you send money.
